Summary
Some discussion occurred about upgrading Xerces. This will not likely occur until 4.5.0 so if you have a need for the upgrade sooner, you should voice your opinion soon so there is time for the implementation.
Google Summer of Code students have been selected. Keep an eye out for them in the weeks to come.
A Python release (1.0.1) is in the works. Look for an rc1 in about a month.
Visual Studio 2010 upgrade is not going to occur until after the 4.4.0 release. SCons for Windows is available now and only require the Windows Platform SDK.
The plug-in developer contest is still going on and will end the first week of June.

2010-05-03T11:06:12 <tclarke> last meeting's notes are here http://opticks.org/confluence/display/opticksChat/April+19%2C+2010+Meeting+Notes
2010-05-03T11:06:18 <tclarke> ok, nothing formal on the agenda so we'll cover open discussion
2010-05-03T11:06:19 <tclarke> first
2010-05-03T11:06:24 <tclarke> looks like we've had some discussion about xerces/xqilla lately
2010-05-03T11:06:30 <tclarke> goffena: you are hoping for a newer version on the next update
2010-05-03T11:06:33 <tclarke> do you know if the 3.1 line will work for you?
2010-05-03T11:06:52 <goffena> still in process of testing Xerces 3.0.1. will test 3.1.0 if i get the chance.
2010-05-03T11:06:56 <goffena> i really don't need a xerces upgrade
2010-05-03T11:06:58 *** Who8MyLunch has quit IRC
2010-05-03T11:07:01 <tclarke> we're not sure what we'll be using but I suspect it'll be 3.1.1
2010-05-03T11:09:19 <tclarke> what timetime would you like this included? were you hoping for a 4.4.0 release or are you ok with 4.5.0?
2010-05-03T11:09:41 <goffena> i'm not certain my folks need the memory leak issue fixed.
2010-05-03T11:09:49 <goffena> i'll have to think about that 4.4.0 vs 4.5.0
2010-05-03T11:09:52 <goffena> i'll get back to you
2010-05-03T11:09:56 <tclarke> ok
2010-05-03T11:09:58 <tclarke> anything else on xerces?
2010-05-03T11:10:06 <tclarke> if not, I'll re-open discussion
2010-05-03T11:10:10 <tclarke> Google Summer of Code
2010-05-03T11:10:16 <tclarke> we accepted 2 students and you should have seen some information on the developer's mailing list
2010-05-03T11:10:24 <tclarke> they officially start on 24May but will be interfacing with the community a bit before then
2010-05-03T11:10:33 <tclarke> next topic
2010-05-03T11:10:49 <kstreith> python scripting extension
2010-05-03T11:10:55 <kstreith> i have been working on a number of changes that will result in a 1.0.1 release
2010-05-03T11:11:04 <kstreith> at this point I still have to finish Win64 support and adding html documentation
2010-05-03T11:13:24 <kstreith> once those are done I anticipate making the 1.0.1rc1 and then 1.0.1 release of the Python scripting extension
2010-05-03T11:13:32 <kstreith> i'm thinking in the next 4-6 weeks the rc1 will come out
2010-05-03T11:13:43 <kstreith> done on that point
2010-05-03T11:13:47 <kstreith> visual studio 2010 upgrade
2010-05-03T11:13:57 <mconsidi> here
2010-05-03T11:13:58 <kstreith> this has been discussed before, but may end up moving past 4.4.0 and onto 4.5.0, which is scheduled for this fall
2010-05-03T11:14:14 <kstreith> but we still have every desire and intention to upgrade to Visual Studio 2010
2010-05-03T11:14:18 <kstreith> just wanted to pass that along, done
2010-05-03T11:15:23 <rforehan> kip: did you want to mention the scon upgrade?
2010-05-03T11:15:29 <kstreith> yeah, sure
2010-05-03T11:15:31 <tclarke> likely the upgrade will be done over the summer so trunk builds with 2010 should be available before the 4.5.0 release
2010-05-03T11:15:39 <kstreith> I just merged OPTICKS-621 into the trunk/future, this means that 4.4.0 and later
2010-05-03T11:15:48 <kstreith> you will be able to build Opticks on Windows using SCons and the Windows SDK
2010-05-03T11:15:54 <kstreith> you won't need a Visual Studio install per se.
2010-05-03T11:15:58 <kstreith> only if you wish to debug
2010-05-03T11:16:12 <kstreith> we will however be maintaining the Visual Studio build system on Windows, so not everyone will have to convert to SCons on Windows
2010-05-03T11:16:14 <kstreith> you will have a choice
2010-05-03T11:17:45 <kstreith> to go along this, I will be working on methods for plug-in developers to use SCons on Windows as well
2010-05-03T11:17:47 <kstreith> to develop plug-ins
2010-05-03T11:17:54 <kstreith> some of the early efforts for this have already appeared on the developer mailing list
2010-05-03T11:18:01 <kstreith> the intent is to provide more choice on Windows
2010-05-03T11:18:06 <kstreith> some plug-in devs find it easier to use Visual Studio, some find it harder
2010-05-03T11:18:08 <kstreith> done
2010-05-03T11:18:10 <tclarke> any other topics?
2010-05-03T11:18:16 <kstreith> i do
2010-05-03T11:18:22 <kstreith> reminder the open source programming contest is still running
2010-05-03T11:19:40 <kstreith> you have until June 4th to make a submission
2010-05-03T11:19:45 <kstreith> you could win a Nintendo Wii or a PS3
2010-05-03T11:19:48 <kstreith> done
2010-05-03T11:19:53 <tclarke> ok, last chance for topics
2010-05-03T11:20:03 <tclarke> notes will be on the developer's mailing list...next meeting in 2 weeks
