Google Summer of Code

Well, I haven't posted anything here in quite a while. This is partly because we've all been working really hard on the latest batch of features and bug fixes. Opticks 4.3.3 and associated extensions are out the door finally and there are lots of exciting new developments which kstreith and I will talk about over the coming weeks.

Right now I'd like to talk about the Google Summer of Code. Opticks applied to be a mentor project again this year and we were accepted. Congratulations on all the hard work everyone has put into making the open source release of Opticks a success over the last couple of years! Potential SoC students have started visiting the Opticks site, mailing lists, and IRC channel so I thought I'd post something for them.

Welcome to Opticks. We hope you'll find our project interesting, usefull, and rewarding. Keep an eye out over the next few days and I'll post some information on a few of the new features including Python scripting capability and our recently release spectral processing extension. If you jump on IRC and nobody is around, don't be discouraged. Many of the people who frequent the channel do so at the office and most of us are in the eastern US. I'll try to be logged in more often off-hours. If nobody is there, feel free to contact us on our mailing list or even leave a comment on this blog post. We're a relatively small project but we do our best to be responsive to all inquiries.
